Sayonara, Hi-Pointe
A conversation's broken out at the Garagepunk.com forums re: the coming demise of the Hi-Pointe Cafe. This seems well beyond the idle musings phase, since longtime booker/manager/proprietor Lisa Andris chimes in, at length, on the topic.
Like the second poster in the thread, I haven't been to the Hi-Pointe as much in recent years, but it's strange to think of think of that corner of the City without the place.
Seems that September 3 is closing night.
Time for a beer in west City...
It looks like it's happening - Kopper was quoting a bulletin posted by the Hi-Pointe's MySpace account. Says the pre-Lisa Andris portion of the bulletin:
"We're sorry to report that the Hi-Pointe Cafe will be closing its doors forever after Labor Day weekend due to the recent sale of the building. Unless something changes, the last night we will be open will be Sunday September 3rd."
I got about five myspace bulletins in a four minute span announcing this earlier this afternoon, including the one from the Hi-Pointe that Eric references. It seems it's for real. I hope the Way Out, off Broadway, and Creepy Crawl pick up the slack.
Posted by jeff on Fri., Aug 25, 2006 at 4:46 PMIs this this the bar or the movie theater? I assume the bar..
Posted by Tim on Mon., Aug 28, 2006 at 11:00 AMYes, this would be the bar.
Posted by thomas on Mon., Aug 28, 2006 at 4:59 PMEven though we're talking about the bar is the movie theatre part of the sale? They're the same building, right? Or not?
As much as it would be a bummer to lose the bar it would be even worse if they closed the movie theatre or converted it into a multi-screen.
Posted by TedH on Tue., Aug 29, 2006 at 9:27 AMThough the buildings meet, I don't believe the sale of the Cafe would impact the Theatre.
And I suppose that if one more beer's to be had there, I'd best get shaking.
